On Friday 5th March the full Void Punishment Sound System was unloaded into Trinity and a group of artists and DJs from Bristol and further a field, came together to put on a night to raise money for Bristol’s most established youth music project, Basement Studio.

The night, called PATCHWORK, saw all 4 dubstep artists from True Tiger Recordings; Stenchman, Sukh Knight, Scandalous Untld and Blue Bear, perform for free alongside Funtcase, Dub Mafia, Kahn and many more, to raise just over £500 for Basement Studio. Jess Tickles, organiser of PATCHWORK events said: “The idea behind PATCHWORK is to bring together the dance music community, both in Bristol and further afield, to do something positive and give back to the community. “Being able to support a project like Basement is great, not only because the work they do with young people is so positive, but also because hopefully in some way it helps to raise the aspirations of the young people who attend the studio.” True Tiger, whose debut dubstep album drops this summer and who the Tuesday following the event, signed a deal with both Coda Agency and with Fabric as one of the five sets of producers they will support this year, were more than happy to be involved. True Tiger Recordings C.E.O Stanza, who DJs under Scandalous Unltd said: “When Jess the organiser of the event contacted us about the night and the cause, we were more than happy to be involved.

“We really enjoyed the night and it was great to see so many people out supporting such a good cause. It’s important for us as a record label to show kids that if they can pull together, they can achieve things they wouldn’t be able to necessarily do by themselves.” Troy Tanska, who runs Basement Studio said: “One of the special things about Basement is that young people tell other young people about it, which is the best recommendation you can have. We get young people from every area of the city and all kinds of backgrounds.
“The support we get from PATCHWORK is wonderful because it goes directly to the young people who attend Basement.” In the future PATCHWORK hopes to continue to support Basement Studio through similar events and would like to thank everybody who was involved and everyone who came down and supported the night.
