Nick Heyward, of Haircut 100 fame, is playing a special intimate candlelit gig at Salisbury Cathedral on October 23 in aid of Oxfam and we’re giving you the chance to be there for free.
We’ve bagged a pair of tickets to giveaway to one lucky reader.
Nick Heyward’s career in music began at 19 with the band Haircut 100. The band had tremendous success in the UK and in the States with songs such as “Favorite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl)”, “Fantastic Day”, “Nobody’s Fool” and “Love Plus One”. After leaving Haircut 100 Nick had great success as a solo artist and is performing at the Cathedral to help a cause very dear to his heart – Oxfam.
“Upon my first visit there 10 years ago I was completely taken by surprise with its lightness,” he said. “There seemed nothing heavy going on inside and only the true celebration of the divine majesty of life itself. The return journey the same. It has only clear intentions, and that is reflected in its position along the St Michael line. It certainly connected my heart, so I’m honoured and very glad that it has come about to sing there, from the heart for Oxfam. Oh what a joy.”
This prestigious event will form part of the Oxjam Music Festival. Since the first festival in 2006, Oxjam has raised more than £1.2 million in total for Oxfam’s work. That’s enough to buy 10,619 emergency shelters, 48,000 goats or 705 classrooms. Oxfam is a vibrant global movement of dedicated people fighting poverty. Together. From saving lives and developing projects that put poor people in charge of their lives and livliehoods to campaigning for change that lasts.
Oxjam Wiltshire will showcase a whole month of events in October, culminating in the Salisbury Takeover Day – a multi-venue event on the 23rd. This will have a real festival feel, with a diverse range of entertainment across a number of venues throughout the day and night – all raising money for Oxfam. Winchester Gate will host a Comedy night featuring, Martin Brown, Wil Marsh, Tony Cowards, Matt Richardson and Neil Macfarlane.
Salisbury Arts Centre and The Boathouse will see well known local artists perform, (artists to be confirmed) and continuing the celebration of loved local music, Silhouette Girls, Out Like A Lion, Reckon the Band and The Operation will all be performing at The Old Ale House.
And for those who prefer a night of dancing The Chapel will host a very special club night, DJs will be confirmed shortly.
Tickets, priced just £6, can be purchased from We Got Tickets and ticket holders will be given a wristband which will enable them to access all of these events apart from the Cathedral Concert where tickets can be purchased separately, from £10 at the Sailsbury Playhouse on 01722 320 333.
