Bristol band Out Like a Lion have made it onto the Radio One playlist after wowing staff at BBC Bristol Introducing. It is part of a new initiative where local bands can get valuable airplay (six plays on daytime radio) if they impress a panel of music experts at the BBC. Out Like A Lion won over the Chris Moyles team. Formed in 2009 by a merger of two local Bristol bands, Out Like A Lion have quickly gone from strength to strength. When they played the BBC Introducing Christmas party in 2009 alongside The Temper Trap and Florence and the Machine, no-one would have guessed it was the first time the band had ever performed together on stage, such was their confidence. It was a similar story at Glastonbury 2010, the band’s youthful cheekiness quickly winning over the crowd. Drawing inspiration from the quirky vocals of the Maccabees; Out Like A Lion’s high charged brand of indie pop will embark on a small national tour next month.
