Jules James is on a mission to put Crickhowell and Wales on the world’s chocolate-making map. From his state-of-the-art Studio 48 at The Courtyard, Standard Street, he is producing hand-crafted truffles in flavours such as chilli, rum and coconut, coffee & Sambuca and praline crunch. His truffle line is augmented by novelty chocolates and “Dragon bars” in solid and filled versions. These feature dark, milk and white chocolate and flavours such as five spices, raspberry, mint, Penderyn, and peanut butter. These potent aphrodisiacs are marketed under his brand of “Black Mountain Gold”. At present his chocolate is being retailed in speciality shops and deli’s around South & Mid Wales plus special commissions for hotels, restaurants and private functions. It has also been marketed at Cardiff City Football Club. He said: “So far we’ve met with 100 per cent approval,” adding: “I always use Welsh butter and cream and no artificial additives. It’s so versatile and adaptable, you can do anything with it and the range of flavours you can achieve is infinite.”
