FROME COBBLE WOBBLE SUCCESS

Over 3000 people witnessed the 2011 Cobble Wobble in the centre of Frome at the end of September. Over the course of the day over 180 riders took on the 179 yard cobbled hill. With a little bit of rain earlier in the day, the course was a little slippery and saw on a lot of cobbling, wobbling and plenty of smiling from competitors and spectators alike. Last years winner, Chris Akrigg was sidelined due to an injury he picked up a couple of weeks before (he fell off a 30ft rockface!) so it was wide open for a new King of the Cobbles to be crowned. Big names taking part included Mick Hannah (World Cup DH racer), Kye Forte (BMX legend), Martyn Ashton (Trails expert) and Red Bull Hill Chasers 2010 champion Chris Metcalfe, so the pressure was on. In the end though, a cheeky hardcore sprint by Lewis Lacey sealed the deal and he is the current King of the Cobbles! Big up to everyone who came along; cheered, waved, clapped and joined in – the atmosphere was amazing and one of the most unique urban bike race venues there is!

Special thanks needs to go to Frome Town Council for getting behind the event again this year, something that is hugely appreciated, and the backing of Charge Bikes, Red Bull and The Milk Street Breweries “Cobble Wobble Ale” which was just as tasty as ever – great to have them at the finish line, something that very few bike races can boast.
