RECORD SHOP DAY – WHO’S DOING WHAT IN THE SW

RSDCOM2010vector Now in its seventh year and celebrating independent record stores and their unique culture, this is the one day that all of the independently owned record stores come together with artists to celebrate the art of music. Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day and hundreds of artists across the globe make special appearances and performances. Her’s the rundown of what our regional independant record shops are doing to mark this special Record Shop Day on Friday 19th April:

SOUTH WEST

BRISTOL

Plenty of stuff going on during the day, including DJs, a charity raffle, and fun to be had in our vintage photo-me booth.
Live Performances from:
2pm – Livid Strippers Dark, folky electronica with extra lush vocals.
3pm – Trust Fund Bristol’s very own pop prodigy, making a lovely quirky indie racket.
4pm – Downard Atmospheric, mathy two piece combo.
5pm – More Than Life
6pm – Stallone Amazing Death Punk Est. 2011. Debut record ‘Mire’ available now from Tangled Talk Records & Enjoyment Records.

They will be dishing out free cakes throughout the day and have two bands playing in the afternoon from 1pm – Skull Kids and These Reigning Days!

A huge day of live performances from 10 bands/musicians playing live in the shop on the day, check out the marquee out on the main piazza across from Marks & Spencer and HMV where the live bands will then be able to perform again.

Local artists and DJ’s playing all day, doors will open at 8:30am (customers are asked to queue at the high street entrance of the shopping centre)

11am – JUNIOR BILL & THE SCALLIES (live) – Their sound is a unique blend of Cardiffian Punky Reggae, Soul and Rock ‘n’ Roll. They also throw in a Portuguese, Berimbau-strumming MC known as L-Hyo, just for good measure.
1pm – THE WEDDING PRESENT (live) – Performing live in celebration of their Welsh language 10″ out on theday! They will also be playing the Wales Goes Pop! weekender at The Gate, Roath on the same day.
3pm – PATRICK DUFFY (live) – He cut his teeth musically in 90’s alt-rock group Strangelove, Patrick Duff went on a hiatus from the music world before emerging as an intriguing artist and singer. His limited RSD 7″ release (a split single with Craig John Davidson) will be available from us on this special day!

DJ’s will be spinning the decks all day in between acts with DJ RASCAL & David Malys among the veterans making it another epic annual celebration!

Refreshments and have live music in store throughout the day – four acoustic sets, starting at lunchtime after the feeding frenzy has calmed down!

– Steven James Adams (ex of Singing Adams and Broken Family Band)
– Bedford Falls (A retrograde rock n roll band from South Wales)
– Failure’s Union (US indie punk rock featuring ex Lemuria)
– Personal Best (Bristol based fuzz fuelled power pop promoting a brand new EP)

Joining forces with Audio T (Hi-Fi) and having a hi fi demonstration in the store in Swansea. Running demos on the Dat of record players etc. They are also raffling a turntable on the day.
