Rose tinted glasses? Yep, there are some lovely ones in our Valentines Day themed Retail Therapy Section. Oh, and if you’re out to impress a crush this month – we bring you our pick of restaurants using local produce. This month we meet Chinese Sky Candy: electro indie kids from Falmouth, interview Wycombe-based rockers, Young Guns, who bring their tour to the South West, find out about new hotly tipped Devon three-piece, These Reigning Days and also chat to Drum ‘n’ Bass DJs: Serial Killaz who are headed for Plymouth. The music scene in the South West seems to get better every month – local talent is abundant and we’ve no shortage of big touring artists visiting the region either – if you would ever like to see a particular artist or style of music covered in 247 that we haven’t done before – drop us a line!

September marks the end of the summer and the start of the very busy autumn gig season alongside the return of thousands of students back to the South West. In our latest issue we follow the story of Biz4 cash – a homeless man signed up to release his music. We chat to The Maccabee’s ahead of their Exeter gig, speak to Totnes based Cosmo Jarvis about this new album out this month, homegrown rock trio, The Subways who play in Falmouth in mid Sept and finally, last but no least, Metronomy, the Barclaycard Mercury Music Prize nominee’s and latest success story to come out of the South west. They have two homecoming gigs in September, and 247 Magazine is proud to support them and play it’s part in getting them to finally play in Totes and Torquay.

Finally, to guide the new student faces coming to the region, we have our annual student guide, highlighting the best places to go, things to do and generally get the best out of the area. Alongside our monthly listings guide, our September issue is bursting at the seams – check it out below!

July sees things getting busy on the party, gig and festival front as we catch up with international superstar, Fatboy Slim for an exclusive interview. We also chat to The Datsuns ahead of their headline gig at Leopallooza in North Cornwall at the end of the month. We spoke with Torquay band, Oxbow Lakes and sent our style team out to Falmouth and Croyde to capture the summer beach vibes. Following on that theme, Rob Barber gives us the inside scope into the world of Bodyboarding, and competition wise, we’ve bagged some tickets to the massive Relentless Boardmasters Festival to give away too. You gotta be in it to win it!

This time last year, we were so impressed by some of the street art at Upfest in Bristol that we used it as our front cover – fast forward a year and it’s happened again. The July mag features some of our top pix from the two day paint festival as well as the usual food, culture, film, style, fashion and retail pages. Interview wise, we caught up with indie popsters Athlete who are heading to Cardiff, Bristol and Gloucester for a stripped back tour this month. We also spoke with Louk from Plymouth label Compulzion who recently signed Swansea’s Project Tek. Finally, we went a tad more high brow and looked at the classical music versus pop music debate after seeing Kissy Sell Out attempt to out argue Stephen Fry at Cambridge University. Bizarre indeed. Competition wise, we’ve bagged some £200 Weekend Offender goodie packs to give away too. You gotta be in it to win it!

This month’s South West mag stars the awesome John Butler Trio, who are heading to Newquay this summer. We also caught up with the multi-talented Ed Sheeran, who had to upgrade his first Cornwall show due to popular demand. Exeter folk may also recognise local favourites The Computers who are causing quite a stir across the region with their rock’n'roll antics and who have a new album out this month. Our third interview is with festival favourites Kitty, Daisy and Lewis. June also sees the launch of our Action Sports section and photos from our 11th Birthday party in Plymouth. Good times!

This month’s West and Wales cover star is the hotly tipped Ed Sheeran. Sheeran’s first headline UK tour was a sell out success so he’s announced more dates for the Autumn as well as a heap of Westcountry festivals. We’ve almost doubled our features count this month and bring you interviews from Battles, Tellison, Kitty Daisy and Lewis and The Computers – all of whom are playing in the region as part of the pre festival gig drive. Out food page looks at ethical eating and previews the Cheltenham Food Festival, the film page has an interview with the Bristol-based director of Eliminate: Archie Cookson and our Snapped page features some pix from last month’s ATP at Butlins in Minehead. This along with all of our regular listings makes for a darn good read we think!
