rbm-low-2Sports Vision, organisers of the Relentless Boardmasters in association with Vans are pleased to announce that planning permission has been granted for this year’s festival, after last week’s surprise announcement that Cornwall County Council had refused planning permission for Beach Break Live, which was due to be held at St Agnes this week.  The refused planning permission saw Beach Break moved to another site in Kent, and since then there has been much speculation as to the negative effect this could potentially have on the live music scene in Cornwall – so much so that one festival organiser was quoted at saying “I think Cornwall is going to have problems getting trust from any event promoter in the future, it does not look good”.

However, Sports Vision and music promoters SW1 Productions, as organisers of the biggest ‘live’ music festival in the county, The Relentless Boardmasters in association with Vans, have issued a statement saying that there is no evidence to suggest that the live music sector won’t continue to support festivals like Boardmasters, as well Eden Sessions and other new and growing festivals in the county like the Port Eliot Festival (Noah & The Whale, Florence & The Machine) and Falmouth Sound (The Wombats, The Wailors).

In their press release, Andrew Topham, Event Director at Sports Vision said:

“Ten years experience of running live events coupled with a fantastic working relationship with Cornwall County Council has cemented the Relentless Boardmasters in association with Vans as Cornwall largest and highest profile live music event.

“We have worked closely with Cornwall County Council since the music festivals inception to ensure the impact of a large festival are minimised and the county can benefit from the positives.

SW1 Productions, programmers of Relentless Boardmasters have spent the last 5 years working with venues in the South West and festival organisers to ensure that Cornwall isn’t perceived as a place where bands do not want to play, or do not come to – in this year alone they have already delivered shows with Zane Lowe, Newton Faulkner, Enter Shikari, The Hold Steady and later this month the Eagles of Death Metal headline the Pavilion at Falmouth (sold out) – in between a headline show at Brixton Academy and playing on the main stage at Glastonbury.  Katy Thomas of SW1 Productions said, “Cornwall has a rich history with live music from the days of the Elephant Fayre and the Surfers Against Sewage Ball to the likes of Run To The Sun, it does have it’s problems, road access, weather, choice of venues etc… but the county definitely has the support of the agents, promoters and bands alike, you only have to look at what’s going on around you in live music to see that.”

This year’s Boardmasters line up features Cypress Hill, The Streets, Calvin Harris, Noisettes, Kissy Sell Out, The Blackout and many more.
