SURF RELIEF FESTIVAL – GET INVOLVED AND VOLUNTEER!
Organisers of the Surf Relief Festival are seeking volunteers to be part of country’s only surfing and live music festival on a beach. Help is needed to manage the site and ensure the smooth running of the event on Friday 17 and Saturday 18 July 2009. The festival will combine top-level surfing and surf lifesaving contests and a packed schedule of family activities with live music as the sun goes down. And best of all, it’s completely free to attend and takes place on one of Cornwall’s most stunning beaches, Watergate Bay in Newquay. In previous years, the Sunset Sessions have featured performances from the likes of The Rumble Strips, Stereo MCs and Ash Grunwald. This year, Garron Frith, The Blind Hearts and Skin Tight are set to perform. Surf Relief UK was set up to help coordinate the UK surfing community’s response to the Asian tsunami of Boxing Day 2004. This year’s Surf Relief Festival will raise money for the charity’s SurfAble project which introduces youngsters with disabilities to surfing – an experience which for many proves to be life-changing. Event organiser Phil Williams of Christian Surfers UK said: “We’re looking for people who can contribute some of their time to help us with a wide range of functions across the site, from marshalling traffic and pedestrians, assisting with car parking duties, and helping with beach-based sports activities. Volunteers can pick the times that they are available to help in what will be a really fun and different event.”
Volunteers are needed to help between 7am and 6pm on Friday 17 July, and from 7am to 9pm on Saturday 18 July. Anyone interested in taking part should contact Phil Williams on 07774 138143 or e-mail phil@christiansurfers.co.uk
