NORTH CORNWALL GETS READY FOR LEOPALLOOZA
Leopallooza festival is a one-day event crammed with amazing music that takes place in North Cornwall on 1 August. One of the South West’s best boutique style festival events, it’s a small scale, carefully considered event with a brilliant atmosphere and everything you need for a faultlessly fab festival experience.
At almost 4 years old now, Leopallooza is the South West’s fastest growing non-corporate live music event. Having played host to arguably some of the best bands in the Westcountry, it also attracts bands teetering on the verge of success from across the UK. Built to hold up to 5000 people, organisers have decided to only make 1500 tickets available (the festival has tripled in size since 2007), as this is an event that prefers nurtured, organic growth over the quick-cash-in, reflected in the low ticket price of just £20.
Leopallooza is also strictly non-corporate and is run like a cottage industry amongst a very close group of friends. It seeks to prove that, through word of mouth, hard work and a whole bunch of crossed fingers, you do not need massive cash injections or enormous banners advertising weak lager to put on a cracking show in a big field to a lot of happy people. Building upon its own success and faultless reputation thus far, Leopallooza has grown in exactly the way it hoped to.
The festival is set in the beautiful Wyldes near Bude in North Cornwall, where the festival site is constructed from reclaimed materials, the second stage is powered by solar energy, there’s a bar called The Flying Squirrel and an eatery called The Hungry Badger. The Tea Appreciation Society will also be brewing up at Leopallooza this year. The centrepiece of the festival is a car, which is loaded with wood and set on fire.
Now to the music. This year’s festival has attracted some of the UK’s best up and coming acts as well as the cream of the local crop. From Kernow’s own success story Rosie and The Goldbug, to Baddies (tipped by the NME to “explode” in 2009), there’s a whole load of top notch musicians set to perform at this jam packed one dayer.
