JOY COLLECTIVE READY TO TOUR SOUTH WEST
“It is a live concert, a visual arts exhibition, a cinema screening, a digital media experiment and a contemporary dance showcase.”
It’s Joy Collective, made in Exeter, and it’s about to embark on the South West leg of its first national and international tour. A special open air tour launch event – for which Haldon Forest Park is set to undergo a unique transformation – will take place at Centre for Contemporary Art and the Natural World this Saturday (12 September 2009). Tickets for the event, which will premiere the full-length Joy Collective showcase, can be purchased from CCANW’s box office on 01392 832 277. They are £12/£10 each (including a glass of wine). Visit ccanw.co.uk for more information.
Joy Collective is a new UK based multi-artform platform and production initiative for exceptional artists of any discipline. The concept was devised by Exeter based artist duo Kris Jager and Mila Oshin (a.k.a. Drunk With Joy) whose collaborative work has received critical acclaim in more than fourteen countries over five continents to date. By using the latest digital media technologies and with the aid of digital media artist StuM, Jager and Oshin present and promote the work of an ever-expanding hand-picked selection of emerging or mid-career artists, through a live touring showcase set on a live soundtrack written and performed by the duo.
To date, Joy Collective comprises seven visual artists, five choreographers/dance artists and three digital media artists/filmmakers from all over Devon. The showcase combines individual bodies of work by all artists as well some work collaboratively produced by them inspired by their involvement in Joy Collective.
After the open air tour launch event at CCANW this Saturday, Joy Collective will also visit Bridport Arts Centre in Dorset (Fri 2 October), Dartington in Totnes (Fri 23 October), Acorn Arts Centre in Penzance (Sat 7 Nov) and Barbican Theatre in Plymouth (Fri 13 or Sat 14 Nov) before returning to Exeter Phoenix (Sun 15 Nov) for its final regional date.
