terrible-strangers-3Following a two month tour throughout the South West’s best live music venues, and having seen 25 young acts perform, the Teenage Rampage Tour 2009 has announced the winning five acts who will perform at the live finale on stage at Bristol’s newly developed Colston Hall on Saturday 19 September.

The young bands carefully selected from the packed regional gigs are The Naturals (Bristol), all girl band The Orkid (Plymouth), Napoleon In Rags (Swindon), all male 4 piece act Terrible Strangers (Exeter) and Oracy (Cornwall) who describe their sound as “indie rock blended with electronic glitchy beats and quirky synths.” The ages of the acts have ranged from 11 to 19 years old and playing on stage alongside this teen line-up will be a host of national headline bands including Johnny Foreigner, Blakfish, Tubelord, Turbowolf and Let’s Tea Party, and it all kicks off from 3pm.

The quality of the acts involved is proven by the fact that some have already tasted success. Energetic St Ives four-piece Oracy won last year’s Plymouth Herald Under-18s Battle of the Bands competition, and Exmouth’s Terrible Strangers (pictured) have been basking in the limelight after being the house band for DJs Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw on their Radio 1 programme Switch. Also, the whole Teenage Rampage tour is being filmed for a BBC BLAST documentary – not bad for these budding musicians.

Speaking about their opportunity to play on stage at the Teenage Rampage Tour Finale, 17 year old Plymothian Abi Sinclair from The Orkid said, “We’re incredibly excited to be playing at Colston Hall in front of such a huge crowd – by far our biggest audience to date. The gigs have really made us think about our music and we are working hard to put on our best performance yet.’ Abi added, ‘The Teenage Rampage Tour is a unique opportunity – a chance for young bands like ours to gain experience, recognition and a wider audience.”

Organised by Bristol Music Foundation and partnered with Colston Hall’s New Generation Takeover, Bristol City Council, BBC Blast, and various other leading youth music organisations and music industry figureheads including Oasis’ promoter Conal Dodds and Blur’s manager Chris Morrison, the Teenage Rampage Tour, which kicked off at the start of the summer, has tapped into the very best music talent the South West has to offer. Alongside the opportunity to play live on stage at Colston Hall the Teenage Rampage Tour 2009 finalists have also won the chance to lay down a track in a professional studio, have their songs featured on the official “Teenage Rampage Tour 2009” compilation CD and have the chance to be assigned an industry mentor and team built around their act.
