The first ever spin off from iconic BBC soap Eastenders is to be launched in the new year. EastEnders: E20 is a new show which starts in January 2010 and will follow a group of sixth form students experiencing the highs and lows of teenage life.  The shows will be available on the BBC website and you’ll see E20 characters bump into familiar faces from The Square as stories cross through into the main show.

As part of the launch of E20, DJs and producers across the UK were given the chance to remix the original theme tune to Eastenders, in the search for a more urban, contemporary theme tune for the online show.  Torquay based Carl Darling has just been announced as the winner of the competition – and as part of his prize Darling was invited to spend the day at BBC Elstree working with the music production team to fine-tune his winning remix.

“I have grown up hearing the original theme tune and watching Albert Square and the iconic Queen Vic,” said Carl. “I feel very privileged to be a part of Eastenders: E20 history. I was very excited to hear that my track was chosen by such an eclectic judging panel. And to spend time in the BBC studios and walking around the Square was phenomenal.” Aged 21, Carl recently completed a degree in Music Production, and you can listen to his winning remix here, where you can also listen to a few Eastenders mixes from the likes of Rob Da Bank and Toddla T…  Nice one Carl!
