Cornwall’s Eden Project based monthly arts and music showcase, Arts Café returns after a three-month break on Friday March 5 with six-piece boogie collective The Zen Hussies headlining.
The Bristol-based band have been bringing their horn-heavy fusion of swing and ska to venues around the country since 2001. The Hussies have won a reputation as dancefloor-fillers and have also recorded two albums – Flatfoot Sharpsuit and Continental Adapter. Complementing this, resident DJs Jelly Jazz will be on hand throughout the evening, spinning their trademark mix of funk, soul and jazzy breaks.
The music will be performed in the Link Building and the Biomes will be open until 9.30pm, giving revellers the chance to see the whole Eden site. There will also be gardening workshops available and cooking demonstrations will take place throughout the evening. Continuing the food theme, there will be a selection of fresh, locally-sourced food on the menu. The marketplace of ideas will also make a return with representatives from the Cornwall Growing Collaboration (including the NHS and Eatsome), the Youth Food Movement, and Eden’s Seeds Soup and Sarnies, Gardens for Life and People and Gardens projects all on hand to discuss ideas and issues with visitors.
Beth Lewitt, Eden’s Events Manager, said: “It’s great to be back! We’re building up for an epic 2010, with some very exciting treats in the pipeline. The March Arts Café aims to kick off the year with a bang so we hope to see you for the first big bash of the year!” Arts Café runs from 7pm to 12.30am and admission is £10 per person, or £15 including dinner. Tickets are available from the Eden box office on 01726 811972 or through www.edenproject.com and anyone who books in advance gets a free drink. Anyone who books a party of 10 or more people is entitled to free entry for themselves.
The next Arts Café is on April 2 with a Mad Hatter’s tea party theme and headline performance by Cornish funk collective The Underbelly, who will be launching their latest album.
