On 25 March, Plymouth will join hundreds of cities across the world by holding a Twestival to raise money for the international charity Concern Worldwide.  A Twestival (Twitter festival) is a charity fundraising event organised through Twitter, the online micro-blogging service, and other social media networks. Over 200 cities across the world are taking part in next month’s event but this is the first time Plymouth has hosted its own Twestival.

Plymouth Argyle will host the event, and tickets, just £10, are now on sale from the Plymouth Twestival website.  Organisers hope to raise over £4,000 for Concern Worldwide. This money will fund out-of-school education for up to 800 children across the world – that’s equivalent to an average primary school.

A charity auction, hosted by local celebrity auctioneer Graham Barton (Homes Under the Hammer), is the main event. Items donated include: artwork from the Martin Bush Gallery, Keeper for the Day experiences and family passes at Dartmoor Zoological Park, Theatre Royal tickets and match tickets for Plymouth Argyle.

Three of Plymouth’s top bands – Kitty and the Lost Boys, Francis and Drakes and The Delahays – will play, and What a Giggle, the local events company, are challenging guests to a giant Scalextric race. Local production company, Machine Media will be filming the evening and guests will be encouraged to tweet and blog from the event.
