Newquay-based band Mojave 3 return to the music scene on June 26 when they appear as Jack Johnson’s special guests at the first of this year’s Eden Sessions. Mojave 3, who have been performing their distinctive country-rock tunes since the mid-90s, will play to a sell-out audience at the home of the famous Biomes. The group released their first album Ask Me Tomorrow, a melodic collection of virtually untouched demos, in 1995 to critical acclaim and have since gone on to record four more albums – Out of Tune, Excuses for Travellers, Spoon and Rafter and Puzzles Like You. The six-piece were formed in 1994 from the ruins of Slowdive, a previous project featuring three of the current band’s members – Neil Halstead, Rachel Goswell and Ian McCutcheon. They were later joined by Alan Forester, Simon Rowe and Melvin Duffy and went on to release singles such as Some Kinda Angel, In Love With a View and Bluebird of Happiness. Known for their simple acoustic songs, Mojave 3’s infectious sound has seen them tour extensively throughout Europe and the United States, repeatedly returning to their Cornwall base to record new material in their Newquay studio.

Taking inspiration from the north Cornwall life of sea and surf, Mojave 3 produced their most recent album Puzzles Like You in 2006. The record went on to outsell all four of its predecessors. After touring with the album, several solo projects emerged for the band’s members which saw Mojave 3 take a break from performing as a group. Their Eden Session performance will be their comeback show. Lead singer Neil Halstead said: “Several of us are local so playing the Jack Johnson Session at Eden is definitely one show we are most excited about. “It’s a fantastic place and having been to a few shows there I know that it’s a really magical place to hear music .We’re looking forward to having a bit of fun and enjoying what we hope will be a good old Cornish night.”

Neil recorded his solo record Oh Mighty Engine at the Solar Powered Plastic Plant studio in Los Angeles where Jack Johnson recorded both his latest album, Sleep Trough the Static and parts of his upcoming release To The Sea.
The Jack Johnson Eden Session sold out in record time back in March.
