While it may well be true that most of the best festivals take place in the South West and Wales, there are a few further afield which are well worth the trek.
Among these is Kendal Calling. Set in the magnificent Lake District, the festival has secured some magical acts including Doves, British Sea Power and Wild Beasts along with Calvin Harris, Badly Drawn Boy and The Coral.
Other acts include Stereo MCs, The Futureheads, The Subways, Erol Alkan, DJ Yoda, Scratch Perverts and Dub Pistols.
The festival, which takes place between 30 July and 1 August, is five years old this year and has managed to keep its ticket price down to a bargainous £85.
It is also hosting its very own real ale festival for all you traditional beer fans. It will feature a selection of local ales, including the festival’s signature ale Kendale.
As with every good birthday party there will be a mass fancy dress party full of superheroes, film stars and posh frocks.
Festival Director Andy Smith says: “Someone mentioned to me that if KC was a child it would be walking around and fetching me things by now! it’s amazing how fast the event has grown and we hope everyone will come and join in the celebrations”
Chris Holland, CAMRA’S Cumbria Area Organiser says: “It is fantastic that Kendal Calling organisers are so committed to real ale and make efforts to ensure the event uses local breweries as well as locally sourced products and services. I am pleased that they have invited us to this year’s festival to promote the work of CAMRA, celebrate the growing interest in real ales and sign up new members.”
