Over 300 people are expected in Plymouth this weekend as it plays host to 32 break-dancers from across the UK and beyond, who are all coming together in a 1 on 1 break-dance battle, all hoping to be crowned ‘King of Plymouth’.

PCSO Pablo Beckhust, one of the event organisers said: “King of Plymouth 2010 is going to be bigger and better than last year’s competition, with entrants from all over the world. As well as the battle for the crown, we also have a young person showcase battle between Plymouth and Bristol, live graffiti, live performances from the Scribes and DJs from Plymouth and London. We want to get more people involved so we have four wildcard places up for grabs for anyone who wants to turn up on the day and show us what they can do. Our judges will pick the top four from the wildcard entries to join in the battle.”

The event which has been organised in association with the Devon and Cornwall Police BREAK youth project, bboy El-Paddy and Battlestations will be hosted by Kitastrophe (YML). Last year’s winner Bugz (Dean Reeve – Just4Funk from Exeter) is back but only on the judging panel and will be joined by Finn (YML) and Kilo (SIN), with tunes provided by DJs Dek1 and Parkz.

The winners of the competition will cash in on decent cash prizes, £200 for 1st place, £100 for 2nd place and £50 for 3rd place.

King of Plymouth takes place on Saturday 4th September 2010 from 2pm to 8pm, at Mutley Baptist Church, Mutley Plain Plymouth. If you want to go along a watch, tickets are £5, or under 16s £3 and under 2s free.
