WERE YOU BORN IN 1991?
In September 2011, it will be 20 years since Plymouth Pavilions first opened its doors, and to mark the occasion the venue have lined up a full year of celebrations including huge live shows, competitions and special events.
Back on 19th September 1991, the opening day featured a classical concert along with comedian Frank Carson. Current Director of Marketing & Programming Gavin Marshall muses about the line-up, “It sounds like a rather unorthodox pairing, and I don’t think it’s unkind to say that the first year or two of the Pavilions’ life weren’t a roaring success. The charitable trust that also runs the Theatre Royal were invited to take over the running of the complex in 1993, and it’s a move that has since enriched the experience of both our Arena and Rink and Pool customers. Our charitable objectives mean that we can provide a breadth of events than would otherwise not be possible. I don’t know of another place in the country where you could see Dizzee Rascal, Basketball, Lee Mack and a Welsh Male Voice Choir under one roof, let alone in the same week!”
Gigs already announced for 2011, include The Script, Alexandra Burke and The Specials, along with visits from Rhod Gilbert and Derren Brown.
To mark the 20 year anniversary, the venue is giving away FREE leisure passes to the pool and ice rink to anyone who shares a birthday with Plymouth Pavilions (e.g. if you were born on 19 September 1991) simply click HERE and you can get a FREE Leisure Pass for a year!
