THE WATERBOYS AND ROBYN HITCHCOCK TO HEADLINE CHELTENHAM WYCHWOOD FESTIVAL 2011

The Waterboys, Cornershop and Roddy Woomble (from Idlewild) will join Robyn Hitchcock, Delta Maid and 3 Daft Monkeys for this year’s Wychwood Festival at Cheltenham Racecourse. Robyn Hitchcock Honouring the celebrated work of the late Captain Beefheart, the legendary Robyn Hitchcock and his Imaginary Band will perform from the album Clear Spot at the seventh annual Wychwood Festival, which takes place from June 3-5. Joined by Gary Barlow favourite Delta Maid, the country star will be performing with a host of other greats including Wychwood regulars 3 Daft Monkeys, Celtic masters Elfynn, Nottinghamshire royalty The Beetroot Kings and Dalston based ahab. Wychwoods literary offering continues to go from strength to strength with Cathy Hopkins, Judith Kerr and Ian Whybrow. The 70’s success of The Soft Boys propelled Robyn Hitchcock into the lime light where he has stayed ever since. At 16, Hitchcock discovered William Shakespeare and avant-garde rock figure Captain Beefheart, the two influences that would establish the foundation for his unique musical perspective. Now the witty lyricist will entertain festival goers at Wychwood with a celebration of one of his biggest influences Captain Beefheart. Hotly tipped Delta Maid has been endorsed by pop royalty, performing at Gary Barlow’s charity 40th Birthday bash this week. The country siren is expected to touch the hearts of Wychwood goers this year as she takes her cue from Rory Block and Bessie Smith. After being together for over a decade the 3 Daft Monkeys have played at numerous Wychwood Festivals, always entertaining a huge crowd, creating a vibrant & energetic atmosphere for everyone.
