Eastern Europe is getting well and truly in on the festival act this year with Exit Festival in Serbia and Soundwave in Croatia. Launched 12 years ago as a student initiated protest against the communist Milosevic regime, EXIT has proved that music is a universal language that can connect and bring people together to make the world a better place. EXIT continues to evolve and bring like-minded people together and although it gets bigger each year, the sentiment and unique vibe remains the same. This year’s headline acts include some of the most sought after bands in the world, including Pulp, Arcade Fire and Portishead. Other acts playing this year’s Exit Festival (July 7-10) include Underworld, Grinderman, Beirut and Hadouken. With 400 performances on 20 stages connected by cobbled streets, ramparts and tunnels, Exit is one of those magical festivals you cannot afford to miss. Exit Festival is renowned for having the best electronic stage in the world – The Dance Arena – as stated by all who have been and performed, including heavyweights Guetta, Tengalia, Coxy, Eric Prydz, Angello & Ingross and Sasha. 2011’s Dance Arena will host Deadmau5 (unhooked), Magnetic Man live, Digitalism live, Paul Kalkbrenner, Steve Aoki, DJ Sneak, Carl Craig, Marco Carola, TiNI. Eclectic just doesn’t do it justice, Exit has also announced a gig by British acid jazz funk supremo Jamiroquai, old skool hip-hop troupe House of Pain and European thrash metal band Kreator.
