There’s solo activity from Andy B, the guitarist of Exeter’s fine tunes-men, National Pastime, plus Exeter’s Pop Noise Records release 3 compilations for your listening pleasure. The compilations collect the previous works of local indie-pop legend and Pop Noise Records’ head honcho, Simon Bish. Simon was the lead singer in early ‘90s indie-pop-punk band, Thrilled Skinny, favoured by our Lord, John Peel. Pop Noise collects Thrilled Skinny’s finest moments on a 30-song CD, Just Another Teenage Dream, which comes with a bonus disc featuring their John Peel BBC Session, as well as a live gig recorded in Plymouth. Another 30-strong compilation album, Embankment Verse collects Thrilled Skinny’s singer’s solo work, under the name of Simon Goalpost. Simon’s band after that, Noise Annoys Simon also have a 25-track compilation, collecting their entire recorded output. Finally, Pop Noise associate and National Pastime’s guitarist, Andy B has a brand new solo album out on his own Pastime Records. Buttons and Badges has been reviewed in this month’s mag, and it’s bursting with old-school indie-pop goodness. The album features Andy B on vocals, guitar, bass and keyboards, and it’s produced by Noise Annoys guitar man, Andy Fonda at Off the Rails Studio.
