Calling all unsigned bands…organisers of the awesome Green Man festival in Wales are on the lookout for one top notch act to christen the main stage of this year’s event. A similar competition last year saw more than 650 bands competing for the coveted prize – a slot on the main stage on Friday August 19. The winners will join the likes of Fleet Foxes, Explosions in the Sky and Iron and Wine as well as Laura Marling, Noah and the Whale and Villagers.

To enter, unsigned bands/artists must upload a video of one of their songs to the Green Man Facebook group. It is there that the public will be able to vote for their favourite act. The top five will go through to round two and will be joined by another five acts, picked by Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens. A second round of voting on these 10 acts will then take place to whittle it back down to five. Those five will then play before a judging panel, which includes editors, label bosses and A&R folk.

The winning act will get one complimentary Green Man ticket per member as well as the once in a lifetime chance to play to thousands of people on stage in one of the most beautiful festival sites in the country, in the Brecon Beacons. Last year’s winners, The Dufflefolks, said: “We’ve not experienced anything quite like it – the crowd adulation, the atmosphere, we’ve never had anything like that before. It was the antithesis of your usual online battle of the bands.”

Student tickets are now running low but there are still adult tickets (£135+bf) available from Ticketline
