DUNE DANCE SANDSIFTER IN CORNWALL 2011
Lovers of roots reggae will be sure to skank down to Sandsifter, at Gwithian, nr Hayle, Cornwall, for Dune Dance; a bass-heavy dub event in the big top featuring the mighty Unification Sound backed up by live performances from the DUB Educators and Dubclass.
Unification Sound features the Roots Camp Collective that includes renowned producers Jay Wendem and Idren Natural. Jay and Idren form the backbone of the collective and will be playing exclusive roots reggae and dubwise sounds to create an uplifting performance to make the people rock and step. Idren Natural, a Rastafarian recording and performing artiste, began his music career after his first release with Dread and Fred later more releasing more material with the UK Players. Idren Natural now has 32 releases on various labels around the world. The second roots camp member is Jay Wendrem, a producer and engineer who also lends backing vocals. Idren Natural and Jay Wendrem form the semi-live dub outfit DUB Educators. Unification Sound mainman Ras Ce has been playing roots reggae music from the early 1980s, with his own dub club night called Fullness. The club night toured Cornwall regularly with dub events in Penzance and Falmouth with Toxic Sound.
Also on the bill are roots and reggae band Dubclass, who hail from Devon and Cornwall. Dubclass is an eight-piece band blending elements of heavy bass driven dub, progressive rock, world music and psychedelia. The band is comprised of multi-instrumentalist musicians with a wealth of experience that are ready to deliver their analogue ways in these digital days, but who are not blind to the odd modern enhancement thus making their reggae and dub clean and fresh.
Dubclass drummer Darrell Bird, formerly of Helston reggae legends the Space Cadets, said: “Dubclass’s acid voodoo vibes are hypnotic and intoxicating and can shift between straight melodic reggae to the kind of super-heavy progressive groove rock that can move any feet.”
The complete package for Dune Dance with Unification Sounds and Dubclass is set to be heavy uplifting and meditative, surely will make you rock and step to a riddum full of culture with the green, gold and red banners flying over.
