The Tacchi-Morris Arts Centre has teamed up with Bridgwater Arts Centre to offer new and emerging playwrights in the South West the opportunity to take their work from the page to the stage.

There is just two weeks to go for budding writers to submit their scripts! Winning entries will be offered a performance slot on stage at either the Tacchi-Morris Arts Centre or Bridgwater Arts Centre in early November. Each of these scratch nights will be attended by local theatre goers, performers and arts professionals, and will offer new playwrights an unrivalled opportunity to see their work on stage in a professional theatre.

The idea of the scratch nights is not only to uncover new writing talent in the south west but also to offer writers a platform to develop their work, gain feedback from a live audience, and progress their writing. Successful applicants will be expected to source players for a rehearsed reading (something your local venue, amateur group or friends may be able to offer help with!)

The competition is open to all ages and both experienced writers and those new to the business of playwriting. The entry fee is just £4 per script. Scripts can be a complete one act play, a work in progress, or an excerpt from a longer piece of writing. Each submission must contain no more than four performers and be no longer than 20 mins in length (and a max of 20 A4 pages).

Entry can be made online at www.tacchi-morris.com (look under the ‘Get Involved’ section on the website). Or by post, to either: From Page to Stage, The Tacchi-Morris Arts Centre, School Road, Taunton, TA2 8PD; or From Page to Stage, Bridgwater Arts Centre, 11-13 Castle Street, Bridgwater, TA6 3DD along with your contact details and a cheque for £4. The closing date for entries is the 5th September 2011 at 5pm – happy writing!
