FINAL LINE UP RELEASED FOR WATUSI FESTIVAL 2011
The programme for Watusi Festival has just been finalised with the addition of the acts performing in the Theatre and Arts Space at this year’s event.
This is the 2nd Watusi Festival, which will take place at Fonman Castle in the Vale Of Glamorgan, from the 2nd to 4th September. The line-up includes fantastic artists from the world music and festival circuit who will be performing alongside some of the best local acts.
For example, playing Saturday 3rd will be the stunning Bulawayo, featuring Cecilia Ndhlovu, formerly of the world-famous Zimbabwean dance troupe, Black Umfalosi. The Friday is given over to one of Cardiff’s best record labels, Seemonkeydomonkey Records, who bring four of their bands to the opening night. Colorama headline, with support from The Method, The Keys and Houdini Dax. After the bands, DJs make sure the party keeps going until the early hours, including the cream of Cardiff (Obey) and Bristol’s (Bedmo Disco) club scenes. But Watusi is not just a music festival, as we give equal importance to our Green Zone, featuring talks, workshops and demos about sustainable living, as well as our brand new Theatre and Arts Space, which features new performances and commissions from Mr & Mrs Clark, Jorge Lizalde, Mary Bijou Cabaret (who will be teaming up with the amazing Johnny Cage and The Voodoo Groove for a music and theatre extravaganza). The Theatre and Arts Space will also be host to workshops, giant games and film screenings, including a very special event on Sunday 4th – a showing of the 1924 account of Captain Scott’s doomed race to the South Pole, which has just been released with a brand new score by Simon Fisher Turner.
Member of the organising committee Dafydd Griffiths added “We are looking forward to this year’s Watusi festival – we have some great acts lined up across all the stages and areas, as well as making sure we look after people while they’re at Watusi by providing good food and a bar stocked with some great local beers and ciders from places such as Artisan Brewery and Severn Cider.”
Watusi’s use of solar power also increases from last year, as we aim to power all of our music stages using renewable energy.
The festival was founded by Cardiff DJs, promoters and musicians Juju Nations, Triban, and Village Dream. This year’s festival will also include local crafts, markets and sideshows and there will be a campervan and campsite with all the usual facilities.
The festival is also partnering with local and national charities, including the Safe Foundation, YMCA, and Camden Calling, the latter of which is a social enterprise where homeless and ex-homeless people put their problems aside to host live music events for a mainstream audience. We’re hosting two bands from Camden Calling, Dekay and Ben Is A Dark Horse, and we’ll be contributing to their podcast.
