LYRICAL MINDED AT BRISTOL COLSTON HALL

Lyrical Minded is doing it again! A radically different night of poetry, spoken word plus open mic with some of the UK’s best wordsmiths. The third annual poetry night in Bristol on Saturday, 22 October 2011, at Colston Hall is sponsored by Ujima Radio 98fm and hosted by Miles Hilton Chambers aka the talented Milo. … and when I say ‘poetry’ I mean ‘POETRY’.

There will be no ‘wandering lonely as a cloud’, ‘stopping all the clocks’, ‘barely daring to breathe’ or achoo, ‘keeping their heads when all about them are losing theirs’. No. This is inspirational, honest and emotive performance poetry for the 21st century with lashings of stand up comedy thrown into the mix – a lyrical extravaganza to offset the current recessional vibe with ‘Freedom’ as its theme to complement Black History Month.

With performances by: vocal pugilist David J; storytelling master Talking Tekla The Narrata; slam impresario Vanessa Kisuule; urban explorer Steve Duncan; and word painter Rebecca Tantony. Milo, with his vertiginous stature and mellifluous tone, hosts. Featuring music from Linda B and Celestine. Someone may push the boat out and don a pair of false eyelashes but I doubt it. Take along tissues; a pair of clappety hands; a friend who can whistle with two fingers; a BBC film crew, very high heels (women), a box (men) and anyone you want to impress.

No need to stuff your sky with squiller – it’s only £10 to get in (£7 concessions). Utterly ridiculous but it’s a charity innit! Tickets available at Colston Hall box office – Monday – Saturday 10am-6pm or phone 0117 922 3686.
