PALESTINIAN FILM FESTIVAL LAUNCHES IN BRISTOL

Palestinian cinema is emerging as a major artistic force on the global scene. A unique mix of wry wit and self-doubt it provides an avenue for mostly untold cultural, historical and personal narratives telling the stories of a people and culture seldom told in mainstream media. For the first time ever the Bristol Palestine Film Festival (BristolPFF) will be providing an opportunity for moviegoers in the Southwest to experience the lives of Palestinian people through film.

With screenings at Watershed, Arnolfini, the Cube, and Hamilton House we will be inviting audiences to explore the multiple realities and identities of Palestinian people. The festival kicks off with a screening of ‘Hassan Everywhere’ a moving tale of two young artists who share a vivid connection to their respective birthplaces Israel and Palestine and who’s passionate friendship, impossible at home, flourished abroad. Winner of two prestigious Digital Media Awards and based on a true story reported in the Guardian Hassan Everywhere provides an insight into the ‘inequality of freedoms’ between Israelis and Palestinians. The festival goes on to explore a broad range of topics both Palestinian and universally human. David Owen – festival organiser says: “Bristol Palestine Film Festival provides an excellent opportunity to explore a side of Palestinian life that is rarely told in mainstream media. We aim to show how Palestinian people live, how they tell jokes, how they love, and how they play football…”
