REVIEW: SKRILLEX AT BRISTOL O2 ACADEMY (29/11/11)

I arrived at the already packed venue. There was an unbelievable buzz of anticipation of supporting act Flux Pavilion and main act, international sensation, Skrillex. Flux Pavilion entertained the crowd for 45 bass filled minutes. His set was absolutely mind-blowing, and for a split second forgot I had gone for Skrillex’s performance! The second the last beat was dropped in Flux’s set, the lights dropped.

A single spotlight centred on stage for 15 minutes, whilst the crowd became more and more apprehensive. This raised the anxiety and excitement once again for the long haired individual to make his appearance. I had an element of worry for a moment when I thought Flux may upstage Skrillex, once he came on however, and roars from the crowd engulfed the venue as he instantly began with the rapturous phrase of ‘My. Name. Is. Skrillex…’ I realized that he wouldn’t!

With his successful blend of Electro and Dubstep, to form his very own genre, he began to jump around during the entire set whilst his sweaty fans mimicked his actions. It was one of the, if not THE best lights performances to accompany and incredible show.
Personally, this was by far one of my favourite live performances and would recommend it to anyone.
