REVIEW: THIN LIZZY AT PLYMOUTH PAVILIONS (31/01/12)

If this gig at Plymouth Pavilions proved anything it’s that the boys are indeed back in town. I admit to being a little apprehensive about the show: with the bands lineup reincarnated so many times and, in particular, without the late legendary front man Phil Lynott, would it be like seeing Thin Lizzy at all? In a word: yes.

Ricky Warwick may not be Lynott himself but he absolutely kicked ass, while retaining the classic Thin Lizzy feel, as did the rest of the boys who include the newly recruited Damon Johnson, of Alice Cooper fame, on guitar.

Thin Lizzy’s epic set, which was a loud as hell, included classics including Whiskey in the Jar, Jailbreak and of course The Boys Are Back in Town. They played each song with the relentless energy you only get from world-class musicians. When they played their three-song encore, which finished the epic Black Rose, even those sitting in the balcony were standing up and rocking out. An f***ing awesome gig.
