One of the Westcountry’s newest festivals returns to Wiltshire this year with another eclectic line up of new and old acts. Honeyfest 2012, which takes place in Tumuli Field at Rockley, nr Marlborough, on Saturday April 14, will host Damon Albarn’s Dr Dee – alongside a host of talented musicians. What’s more, we’ve teamed up with the organisers to give away a pair of tickets to the event.

Other acts confirmed for the event will be up and coming nu-folk group Dry The River, the uber-talented Raghu Dixit (featuring members of Bellowhead) Rae Morris, Nick Harper, Kidnap Alice and more. For the second year running, the BBC will continue to support the festival, with BBC Introducing will hosting Gabrielle Aplin, Gaz Brookfiled, A Genuine Freakshow, Crash & The Bandicoots, Young Blood and Anchor & The Wolf. Joining them will be the regional Battle Of The Band winners Maria Byrne and The Gallant Tailors.

The festival prides itself on its community roots and as such, does everything it can to support the local area from using local suppliers and staff to breaking new musical talent in the Wiltshire area. This year’s Honeyfest Battle Of The Bands took place at Bouverie Hall, Pewsey earlier this month. Acts competed for the two opening slots on the mainstage. The judges were Will Walder (BBC Introducing), Sandra Bhatia (Honeyfest MD) and Stephen Budd (Honeyfest MD).

Honeyfest 2011 was held in support of the Barge Inn Community Project – a group of villagers who came together to take over the running of their local pub and secure its future at the heart of their community. It saw performances from the likes of Laura Marling, Damian Rice and the Magic Numbers. The creation of the festival was documented in a primetime BBC 1 series, which followed the journey of the Barge Inn Community Project as they secured a grant from the Big Lottery Fund’s Village SOS scheme and organised the festival in a bid to promote their project and secure wider support from the community.

Tickets – priced £39adv – will be available through the website www.honeyfestuk.com (With discounted tickets available for local residents at The Barge Inn, Honey Street, Wiltshire).
