B-SIDE AT BUNTERS IN TRURO CELEBRATES FIRST BIRTHDAY
It’s been one year since the launch of B-Side at Bunters and to help them celebrate a brilliant first year, the owners have pulled in a rather exciting line up for Friday 9 March featuring The Patrick James Pearson Band, The Antlered Man, Wild Mercury Sound and Hold the Sun.
Launched in March 2011 B-Side at Bunters was designed to offer an alternative to a standard ‘pub venue’ for emerging talent from around the country and in the 12 months that have since passed it has firmly established itself as Cornwall’s premier live music club venue, winning such accolades as ‘Best Small Venue’, ‘Best regular night’ and ‘Best local gig’ at last year’s West Briton, What’s On music awards.
With a 200 capacity, B-Side is now the best spec’d small live venue in Cornwall (featuring an in house KV2 PA system with resident engineer and crew) which has helped raise the profile of the venue not just locally but also attracted some of the biggest names in music within its first year alone.
Brit award winner Michael Kiwanuka graced the venues stage in june of last year as well as Manchester’s Heartbreaks, the hotly tipped Juan Zelada (recently signed by Decca records), dance rock from Hyper and all the way from the US prog metal band Animals As Leaders have all been definite highlights of the first year…with two or three acts playing every week the list could go on!
B-Side also hosts a monthly Cornish leg of club night Communion. Communion is now an international night born in London and founded by none other than Mumford & Sons’ Ben Lovett along with acclaimed producer Ian Grimble and Cherbourg bassist, Kevin Jones. Communion is a flourishing community of musicians and fans alike, originally designed to provide an independent platform for the freshest young artists on London’s circuit and beyond. The night has helped the likes of Noah & The Whale, Laura Marling, Mumford & Sons, Ben Howard and many more, develop their careers and has now spread as far afield at New York, Sydney and yes, Cornwall! With a music policy that opens the door to acts at all stages of their career and in any genre – Indie to Metal, Electro to World, Jazz to Hip Hop etc – and with an exceptional line up already under its belt for the start of 2012, B-Side is looking forward to welcoming the likes of Max Raptor, The Wave Pictures and Mark Morriss (from the Bluetones).
