BBC RADIO 1 STARTS THE SUMMER IN PAIGNTON

The national’s most popular dance music station, BBC Radio 1 kick starts its biggest summer of events with a massive dance party in Paignton on Saturday 19 May, showcasing the best in dance music. The party which coincides with the arrival of the Olympic Torch on UK soil (and it’s visit to Torbay on Sunday 20 May) and the line-up features some of the greatest dance DJs in the business along with Radio 1 Talent.

Guests include: Eric Prydz, Jaguar Skills, Example, Annie Mac, Zane Lowe, Pete Tong, Mistajam, Fearne Cotton, Chris Moyles and Danny Howard

The event which takes place on Paignton Green, Paignton will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra from 4pm – 11pm. If you want to be there, it will be a FREE ticketed event, so if you’re local to Torbay and the surrounding areas listen to Annie Mac’s show on Radio 1 on Friday 4 May for information on how to obtain one of the 8,000 tickets that are available for residents of Torbay and the surrounding areas.

Gordon Oliver, Torbay’s Mayor and Leader, said: “Torbay is extremely pleased to welcome Radio 1 to Torbay. This prestigious event gives our local young people the opportunity to enjoy a high profile national music event on their doorstep. It will also generate a large amount of great coverage for the area and will have a positive direct economic impact. The Events Forum was formed to support local events and attract large-scale events such as this. It is great in this Olympic and Jubilee celebration year, and with all the other local and high profile local events taking place, that we are able to showcase all that is good about the Bay. These type of events help reinforce the message that this is a place where people want to live, work and visit.”
