THE PORTLEVEN MASKED BALL IS BACK THIS MAY BANK HOLIDAY
The Porthleven Masked Ball 2012 will unleash a world of wild abandon on Saturday 5th May as the legendary event reaches new heights of creativity and craziness. Deep in the far reaches of South Cornwall, this chest of festival treats and treasures is certain to be brimming with imagination and sheer otherworldliness. Standing proud on the craggy cliffs, the Porthleven Masked Ball will continue to set its own trends with lavishly unique curated areas, allowing party-goers to chill or rock out, depending on whichever notion takes them.
Now in its sixth year, the 2012 Ball is an experience designed for maximum delirious exploration with hidey- holes just begging to be uncovered. A shockingly impressive red carpet welcomes the hoards as they enter the party – an experience created by the proudly outrageous brand, Slut clothing – specially designed to set the tone of extravagance and decadence for the night.
Once inside, people will discover ‘The Flammaball Stage,’ a secret rocket launch complex that’s been taken over by pyromaniacs, ‘Mickey the Midget’ and an eclectic coterie of exciting performers. This area will also boast acts including The Stanton Warriors, Freerange DJs and Snatch the Wax amongst others. Revellers will also find their way into ‘The Hidden Disco’, a space only accessible via a secret network of tunnels, playing nonstop disco/funk classics featuring NYC Soundsystem and Jamie Giddens.
Overlooking the ocean, the cliff-top garden terraces will host a number of visually breathtaking venues including ‘The Main Ballroom’, featuring a DJ set from The Friendly Fires, plus local heroes Brother and Bones fresh from supporting Ben Howard. Masked Ball favourites Jac the Disco, Brandon Block and Pacha co-ordinator Lee John plus a host of other local movers and shakers will also be keeping the party revving.
For 2012, the Porthleven Masked Ball organisers have also plugged into the creative minds of ‘The Barnfest’ to create ‘Bedlam’ – a pyjama party of extreme exhilaration. The only way to step into a party of this calibre is by marching through a huge double wardrobe in magic style so festival goers should be prepared for Cornwall’s own The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe gateway. And the Porthleven ‘Snow Dome’ returns, one of the much loved highlights of the recent Halloween Ball, created by the outstanding Sir Vinyl of the Fattest.
Organiser Kelvin Batt said: “We work hard at being the UK’s biggest intimate festival. In the last six years we have built up such a fantastic cult following and we are continually dreaming up new ways to unlock the doors to our wildest party dreams and create an insane reality for our fans. A lot of our people tell us they love the Masked Ball for all its little quirks and adventures, rather than simply buying the ticket based solely on the line-up. So we’re revving-up that side of what we do to the max with lots of smaller tents and secret areas. 2012 is set to be our most amazing Ball yet, with all our creativity backed-up by the most amazing set of sounds.”
There are still some very special VIP Masked Ball details to be revealed and these are coming soon. Cool campsite, in a jaw-dropping setting, is available and tickets sell out further and further in advance each year. Tickets are £35 pounds including camping and parking from www.maskedball.net
