OPEN STUDIOS CORNWALL RETURNS ON DIAMOND JUBILEE WEEKEND

Open Studios Cornwall returns to venues across the county on Jubilee weekend (2-10 June).

Now in its eighth year, a record 208 artists and craftspeople from the length & breadth of Cornwall will open their studios to the public. From traditional, established painters, to up-and-coming sculptors, furniture makers and potters – the finest creative work in the county will be freely on display for all to see.

The event not only offers visitors the opportunity to meet and watch artists at work, but also to visit incredible hidden studios – far from the tourist trail. Studios are often part of the artist’s home, so the welcome received is far removed from the experience of visiting an established gallery.

This year artist workshops have been introduced, so members of the public can learn anything from the history of oil painting and ceramic workshops to kids art from junk sessions at the Krowji in Redruth. Other highlights include Trewidden Gardens, Buryas Bridge, near Penzance – where entry will be half price during the event for Open Studios visitors. Visitors can enjoy cream teas and there is a creative play area for children in the beautiful gardens. Many of the artists here are also part of the Newlyn School of Art, so providing a great opportunity for budding artists to learn more about courses available.

Jane Sutherland, director of Creative Skills, the organisation behind Open Studios Cornwall comments:
“With so many exciting things happening across the county this summer, we’re delighted to be holding Open Studios during Jubilee Week. It should add another element of fun to the event, with lots of Jubilee themed garden parties and workshops planned by the artists. We hope that once again, Open Studios does a great job for both artists and art lovers.”
