LAKOTA BRISTOL GOES FOR DJ RELAY WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT

On 7 July, there is an attempt to break the world record for the longest DJ relay at Lakota, Bristol’s best-known nightclub. Inspired by the Olympics, over 100 DJs will play one tune each.  The current record is held by Radio One Xtra DJs who played 82 and Bristol DJs are looking to take the title.

Lakota is going to be 20 years old, making it one of UK’s longest running clubs; and it’s no stranger to world-breaking records. Back in 2001, Richard Dolby played the longest ever DJ set – amounting to 48 hours and 3 minutes.  Richard and Lakota are organising the relay.

If that wasn’t exciting enough, the line up for the rest of afternoon and evening features many of the DJs that helped to build Lakota’s name during the 90s. The special guest will be Jon Da Silva, who was a regular headliner. John Kelly, who was one of the DJs that was instrumental in establishing the Liverpool club scene, out of which came the legendary cream, will also play.

Ivor Wilson, Grayson Shipley (Deepgroove), Deli G and Mark Davis are also on the line up. They were the residents at Lakota in the 90’s at nights such as Fish Dude, Revolution and Fandango. The resident DJs from other regular 90’s nights at Lakota such as Lazyhouse, Fruity Antics and One Love will be guesting during the evening.  Charlotte Hazleby who was the club’s promoter in the 90’s will dust off her vinyl and give a rare set.

Leon Alexander of Hope Music is organising room 2 which will be a techno room, reminiscent of the Friday nights at Lakota in the 90s. Billy Nasty, Nifty and Leon Alexander will play alongside other techno DJs. During the 90s Leon’s night at Lakota was called Temptation and he booked DJs such as Carl Cox, Sven Vath and Laurent Garnier.

Reggae Roast, one of the most vibrant, new reggae collectives in the UK (6) will be doing what they do best in the car park during the afternoon.  Channel One and Evermoor Sound will also be on the bill.

Code of the Streets (8), regulars on the St Pauls based Ujima radio station, will be playing in The Court. There will be some jungle classic sets by DJ Dazee and Krust, both of whom were residents at the Ruffneck Ting and Full Cycle nights respectively.

£3 entrance for the day and between £8 and £12 from 10pm. More info at www.lakota.co.uk/whats-on/details/153-Lakota-20th-Birthday-Party
