STUDENT SURF TOUR 2012 HITS THE SOUTH WEST

The Student Surf Tour comes to Gwithian in Cornwall on the weekend of June 1, 2 and 5, for three days of surf and sounds.

This year’s event is entitled the Shack-O-Lympics with two days of surf competitions and three days of entertainments. The surf competition categories include the men’s and women’s titles along with a longboard cup. There are also other spot prizes for furthest travelled competitor, best-dressed team, raddest ride and the goon of Gwithian – a special award going to the biggest clown of the contest. This year the surf tour is modelled on the Olympics with each contestant being asked to pick a country to represent.

Entertainment-wise, on Friday it’s an open-mic night where surfers are expected to drag their guitars from their campers to show that it’s not only talent in the water that matters. On Saturday, mash-up and big beat kings Too Many Ts perform live with their unique funky style of full fat beats, stirred in with two heaps of sugary fresh raps, comical swagger and the distinct fragrance of golden era hip hop. Support will be from a mystery guest DJ. Too Many Ts are regarded as the next big act to leap out of the UK’s rap scene after recent slots supporting Utah Saints and DJ Woody. On Sunday, Trampagne perform live with their special take on modern favourites casting them as a good slice and cut above the mediocre covers bands doing the rounds.

Entry to the competition is available online at www.ilovenq.com/collections/student-surf-tour
Camping is available and the public are warmly invited to view the event and join in the entertainments.
