Fun-seekers in Weston-super-Mare are being urged to get their skates on for a brand new roller disco.

Let’s Sk8 started with one event at Patchway Sports Centre this time last year and has steadily increased, now running regular roller disco sessions throughout Bristol and beyond – including in Easton, Horfield and Scotch Horn Leisure Centre in Nailsea. And now they’ve turned their attention to Weston.

It is one of three new roller discos set to launch this summer, the others being at the City Academy and Knowle. The Weston roller discos will take place at Hutton Moor Leisure Centre, in Hutton Moor Road, every month with the launch day taking place on July 21, at 5.30pm.

Managers Nicola Schorlee and Sharon Black said: “Let’s Sk8 is now one-year-old and we are extremely pleased with the growth that we have experienced. We are overwhelmed with requests and have therefore decided to launch more roller discos at venues across the region to inject even more fun into the local community whilst encouraging more people to exercise. We are thrilled to be launching new discos in Weston-super-Mare and are hopeful that they will draw huge crowds.” They added: “Roller skating can burn up to 600 calories per hour, which is more than other traditional styles of exercise, such as aerobics and basketball.”

Let’s SK8, whose customers range from 18 months to 60 plus, say the expansion is due to their continued success and support from the community. It is now part of a youth fitness programme and also accommodates birthday parties of all ages, Hen parties, Stag parties and is mobile – so it can go to any venue with its 200+ pairs of skates.
