LEGENDARY DJ DEREK TO CELEBRATE 70TH BIRTHDAY IN CORNWALL
One of Britain’s legendary DJ greats will be making a rare visit to Cornwall to play at a special bash to celebrate his birthday. Yet this legend isn’t a seasoned radio DJ or a young Ibiza crowd pleaser, it’s DJ Derek and it’s his 70th birthday.
Derek, who lives in Bristol, is a genuine trooper and crest bearer of the funk, reggae and soul scene. With a genuine love for music that transcends race, colour and creed – he also exudes a dedication that spans decades.
He is also very popular and pulls large crowds in his native Bristol and beyond, as well as being highly respected on the festival circuit. While Derek’s Jamaican patois may sound weird at first (he picked up the accent from his Jamaican barber), you soon start to realise the place he’s coming from is one of total respect.
DJ Derek plays at Sandsifter, Gwithian, Hayle, on Saturday, August 4, for a funk fuelled, deep down soulful, reggae happy birthday. Tickets are £7 and are available online here, or from the Sandsifter.
