CARDIFF OLD BANK VAULT TO HOST HOUSE & TECHNO NIGHT

Since its launch earlier this year on May 5th, Cellar Door Cardiff has taken the Wales & West club-land by storm with three sell out events! So what makes it so special you may ask?

Well for a start, have you ever been to a rave, party or club event set inside an original bank vault? This incredible grade II listed building provides an environment like no other, also used as a TV and movie set location, with recent shoots by Dr Who. The vault has kept many original features including the huge vault doors linking the various rooms.

One member of the promoter team was involved with the legendary Hip’po Club in the 90’s, (see the ‘One More’ DVD) and then also massive nights such as Enter the Dragon & ROAR launched with Paul Oakenfold in 2000. The enthusiastic promoter / DJ’s put the emphasis firmly on creating a club night which simply blows those attending away! Everything from the sound system, lighting systems, bar stock, staff and security team has been carefully selected with the clubber in mind. It is all about creating a positive energy second to none for not just today’s younger clubbers, but for the old-skool too.

But not only is the venue unique and the team experienced, not a single ‘big name’ DJ has been used to pull the crowds. Cellar Door provides a new concept – ‘The Undercover DJ’s’. The team select quality local DJ’s from mixes sent into them via Facebook to play alongside the ‘Undercover DJ’ residents. All DJ’s play undercover and are not named on marketing. This is totally opposite to club-lands norm, where a promoter typically bases their night around a ‘big name’ DJ. We asked the promoters why they took a risk with this unusual format and they said:

“We have booked many so called ‘big name’ DJ’s in the past at other events and whilst we love many of them, it was simply becoming unviable with their huge fee’s. Some promoters choose to book name DJ’s that are no more known than a local DJ, so we have put our focus on using our incredible venue to give quality local DJ’s a chance in a real club night and an emphasis on great production – We even have a giant screen retro cartoon cinema set inside the old bank above the vault! We are extremely lucky to have such an amazing location in which to hold Cellar Door”

The next event takes place on Saturday August 11th @ The Vaults – Cardiff Bay.
