EXETER’S PASTIME RECORDS CELEBRATE THE SOUTH WEST MUSIC AWARDS 2012
The South West Music awards 2012 will take place at Exeter Castle at 8pm on Thursday 1 November, and to coincide with the event an official showcase CD album highlighting some of the finest music the South West has to offer is being released by Exeter label Pastime Records.
‘Brush Strokes On Canvas’ features 19 tracks from artists based in the South West, from established acts like Phil Wilson of The June Brides to lesser known acts like Banana and Louie and Exeter based Bright Lights Big Zombie.
There is a strong indie presence with acts like The Morrisons, National Pastime, Raining Globe, Simon Bish, Fonda, A Fine Day For Sailing and Falling Trees, all included, with folk rock also being strongly represented with the likes of Catherine & the Owl, The Akibas, Mozura and Count To Fire.
Plymouth band Secrets for September have hints of gothic overtones whilst The Coffin Collectors delve into the psychobilly genre.
The tracks have been selected by Andy Botterill, of Pastime Records, himself a nationally reviewed recording artist, with three solo studio albums to his credit, on the request of South West Music Awards organiser Fred Previous.
‘The tracks on the compilation provide just a taste of the rich and varied music being made in the South West,’ commented Andy Botterill of Pastime Records.
‘There are many, many outstanding artists we would have liked to have included and many different styles and genres we would have liked to have represented, not all of which we had room for, but what we have done is put together a fantastic compilation of just some of the finest musicians performing and recording in the South West.
‘Many of these artists would have received wider national recognition if they were based and performing in London,’ Andy added. ‘Hopefully being included on the compilation will get some the wider success they deserve.’
‘Brush Strokes On Canvas’ will be given away to celebrities and music industry figures attending the South West Music Awards 2012, as well as being on sale at £5 each from the Pastime Records website and available for download from iTunes and Amazon.
An official launch party for the CD will take place at the Revelry Bar on Exeter Quay on Saturday 20 October from 8.30, with live performances from Phil Morrison, Leo and Dan from Bright Lights Big Zombie, Fonda, Falling Trees, Mozura, The Akibas, Hurricane Horse and Catherine and the Owl. Free entry.
