A former Exeter university student has a track on a new London 2012 Olympics album, released by Universal.

Following on from a successful partnership with new music website Emergingicons.com and LOCOG – where over 50 undiscovered acts who are signed up to the website were asked to perform at an exclusive stage within the Olympic Park for London 2012; the best artists have been highlighted and chosen to appear on a digital album.

This includes musician Alice Watts who played at The Olympics and Paralympics this summer on the Emerging Icons Stage. Alice and her band choose to perform in a variety of lineups depending on the venue. At the Olympics, Alice
played with a ukulele bass player, a beatboxer, and classical violin player. Radio 2’s Lynn Parsons recommends her music as ‘Truly scrumptious.”

The artists on the album are UK based, unsigned, and have recently been championed by some of the worlds iconic figures who have helped to shape the music industry, written hit songs, and international pop superstars, as well as an
Olympic champion.

A spokesman for the initiative said: “In a world where it is difficult to breakthrough as an original artist with masses of
music being made, the company mission is to not only create a platform for artists but to go the extra mile to develop key strategic partnerships and collaborations with the biggest platforms out there – to help the most dedicated artists to get heard by both industry and fans.”

Alice Watts said: “I hope this song brings a uplifting feature to the album, with mega beats to inspire the brave. It’s one of those songs that you can’t help but tap your feet along to. I think it’s apt for the Olympics as it stirs up bold emotions that we all need to feel once in a while ”

Launched in 2008, by music graduate Kat Jackman, the business started as a band review site called www.unsignedbandreview.com (UBR) ‐ the site has recently extended its features to include an online music industry social network, and now each artist within the UBR community is given a free MySpace‐like fan profile on
www.emergingicons.com.

As fans engage with the artists profile – such as follow/listen/comment ‐ the company picks up on those artists to help to give back, where appropriate, with radio exposure, live gig opportunities and promotion, and are thus being labelled as the music industry social network that gives back.
