MIXTAPE: KELAN
Introducing Kelan; a Bristol based DJ, radio presenter and music video director with an ongoing obsession with the physicality of media including vinyl, cassettes and VHS tapes as well as the processes in which they can be played, recorded, destroyed and how they age over time. As a keen collector of rare records, Kelan states that “even when these acquire surface noise, I feel this adds a new layer to the history of the record, its previous owner’s marks are not only audible but tangible too”.
You can catch Kelan playing a broad range of music on Passion Radio Bristol, with a particular focus on the diverse palette of music that comes out of Jamaica and the range of styles that have been affected by its legacy. Kelan holds a residency for authentic Bristol dancehall night; Top Ranking and is also currently working on music videos for labels such as Hotline Records, Berceuse Heroique, Fuck Punk and Livity Sound.
