GLOUCESTERSHIRE FILM STUDENT WINS AWARD FOR SMALL HOURS SHORT FILM
Budding film makers from The University of Gloucestershire have won a prestigious British Universities Film and Video Council (BUFVC) award for the third time in four years. Digital Film Production students picked up the gong for Best Student Production (Undergraduate), at the BUFVC Learning on Screen Awards 2011, for their film ‘Small Hours’ directed by student Adam Batchelor.
Adam and the team, including Cinematographer Seb Levett, Producer Chris Hall and third year lecturer Freya Billington, collected the cash prize and AVID software from celebrated documentary maker Michael Cockerill, at a glitzy ceremony at the National Film Theatre, London.
Freya Billington, Third Year Lecturer, Digital Film Productions, said, “In his acceptance speech, Adam was very positive about his experience of making films on the course. In addition, not only did Small Hours win against serious competition but several people approached Adam afterwards, keen to see the film and make suggestions as to where else he might try to screen it. Small Hours is an excellent film and hopefully this will be the first of many awards.”
This award follows the success of student production ‘Launderette’ which won the British Film Institute Future Film Awards 2011 – Best Documentary (19-25 age group) in February 2011. In addition, a third film ‘North West Five’ directed by current third year student Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou is to be screened at the Screentest Film Festival in London and at the No Limits Film Festival in Sheffield, where it is nominated for Best Film and Best Cinematography. It is also currently Short Film of the Week on bestforfilm.com.
