DE LA HEAD FOR THE SOUTH WEST
Hip-hop owes a lot to De La Soul: there’s no doubt about that. Twenty years ago, the New York trio took sampling techniques and lyrical skills to a whole new level, with their groundbreaking album ‘3 Feet High and Rising’. This is a truly unique and innovative album, which opened other artists’ eyes to the fact that you can pretty much sample any kind of music in hip-hop, a tradition that has continued ever since by countless other acts. De La Soul are to rap what The Beatles are to rock & pop, and ‘3 Feet High & Rising’ is their ‘Sgt Pepper’. They are one of those unusual acts that have maintained artistic integrity as well as commercial success, and have continued to make great records since their debut.
The legends of hip-hop bring their incredible live show to the South West in June with two dates – 2 June at Exeter Lemon Grove and 4 June at Bristol Academy.
