THE WEEZER CRUISE – COULD THIS BE THE BEST HOLIDAY EVER?
We’ve long been fans of Weezer and living in the South West, we sure are fans of boats – now the two have combined in one of the most innovative gig experiences ever – the Weezer cruise.
Setting sail from Miami in the States on January 19, 2012, the Weezer cruise gives fans the chance to enjoy a leisurely few days, catch a Weezer gig and meet the band. But that’s not all, there are also a heap of other bands playing, including Dinosaur Jr. Sebadoh, Yuck, The Antlers and Ween. The cruise, run in association with the US based Sixthman, ends in the island of Cozumel, off the coast of Mexico on January 23. The liner houses 2,500 people in total in 2, 3, 4 or 5 berth cabins. With fifteen bands set to play the party continues through the day and night. Weezer will perform on the pool deck as the ship pulls out and then again in the indoor main theater.
Between the many shows taking place on the four stages around the ship, fans will participate in games and activities, swim in Carnival Destiny’s pool, play a few rounds of bingo, or order from the 24-hour room service menu. After a day-and-a-half at sea, guests can spend their Saturday soaking up the sun on Cozumel’s beaches before returning to the Caribbean for more rock and roll.
In 1992, Weezer held their first practice session in Los Angeles. Since those early garage days, they have released nine full-length albums, six EPs, and a DVD, selling ten million records in the United States alone. They played an awesome sell out gig at London’s Brixton Academy earlier this month as well as the Sonisphere festival.
Sixthman creates theme cruises with an emphasis on celebrating music and fan communities. These one-of-a-kind experiences bring like-minded people together in exclusive, interactive, and intimate environments. Prices start at $799 (that’s just under £500) per person for double cabins, or four people can sail together for just $599 (£370) per person. Then you’ve gotta think about flights to the States and back, which is going to double your price – but we’d argue, that’s a price worth paying!
