CHARLIE SIMPSON CONFIRMED FOR FIRST SQWHERE LIVE! IN PLYMOUTH AND FALMOUTH
SQwhere kicks off on the 16 of October with ‘SQwhere Live’ in Plymouth and the 17 of October in Falmouth UK for the end of the Freshers parties for students, teachers, lecturers and any local music lovers.
Charlie Simpson will be headlining both dates and will be supported by local bands in each venue. The 16 October will see him perform in the University of Plymouth’s Student Union with Jimmy Murray and Land of the Giants. The 17 October will showcase Charlie in the 2,000 capacity marquee in Events Square Falmouth. His support acts Jimmy Murray and The Peoples String Foundation are both locally based acts boasting their own cult followings.
Following the Top Ten success of his debut album ‘Young Pilgrim’, Charlie Simpson has announced his next single will be ‘Cemetery’, which will be released as a digital download on October 31. The release of ‘Cemetery’ will coincide with Charlie’s UK tour which begins in Bristol on October 19. So Cornwall is getting their hands on him first before he kicks off his official tour! He has been touring the festival circuit this year and has recently been seen rocking the Beach Live stage at Boardmasters, Newquay alongside Newton Faulkner. He writes his own material and is inspired by artists such as Jeff Buckley and Bon Iver. His music is a mixture of inspiring acoustic melodies, laid back folk and indie beats.
But that’s not where the music ends, he will be joined by Nottingham band Dog is Dead. Drawing influence from a wide range of music, their canon to date veers from African Hi-Life rhythms to complexities drawn from the non goblins and pixies end of prog, the sharp choruses of 80’s power pop and the twists and turns of intelligent alternative music, they are truly a band without a box and all the better for it. A string of festival performances across the likes of Dot to Dot and Splendour in 2009 had suggested this might be the way and confirmation came in repeat showings in 2010 in the fields of Glastonbury, where they became the only unsigned band to feature on the BBC2 coverage. Radio 1 type Kissy Sell Out was so enamoured he created his own remix of ‘Glockenspiel Song’.
Cornwall is the appropriate home for the beautifully evocative, languid and lush music of The People’s String Foundation. Jazz inspired melodies with nods to the Middle East, hip-hop infused beat work and a taste for experimentation permeate their captivating live performances who will play SQwhere live! They are joined by 23 year old Jimmy Murray and Plymouth-based indie rockers Land Of the Giants, fresh from Volkfest supporting Toploader and UB40. Sara Lloyd from SQwhere Live says, ‘ we are really excited to have such an inspiring, up and coming artist on board for the launch of this new music and entertainment event. We have got such great venues to host the performances and the local support acts are the cream of the crop. Look out for a Sqwhere Live happening near you soon!’
