JUDGING PANEL UNVEILED FOR THE ANNUAL WELSH MUSIC PRIZE
The first 100 judges on the panel for the 2011-2012 Welsh Music Prize have been revealed – and include label execs, music journalists, promoters and producers.
Among those announced by the organisers this month are Mark Bowen, Co Founder Wichita Recordings, Bethan Groves – DJ/Promoter, Greg Haver – Record Producer, Luke Morgan Britton – Writer, The Line Of Best Fit & DIY Magazine, Simon Thomas – Manager at Catapult and Helen Weatherhead – BBC Music Journalist.
The Welsh Music Prize was created in 2011 by Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens and festival promoter and music industry expert John Rostron. The prize, which was launched to coincide with SWN festival – one of the UK’s biggest independent music festivals, celebrates the finest music made in Wales or by Welsh people around the world.
The winner of the Welsh Music Prize 2010-2011 was ‘Hotel Shampoo’ by Gruff Rhys. Gruff has been an icon in Welsh music and culture for over two decades. He was shortlisted alongside acts such as Manic Street Preachers and Joy Formidable, ambassadors for Wales in the world, as well as lesser known acts such as Lleuwen and Stagga.
With a commitment to diversity and fine production, Welsh Music Prize will champion the best new music from Wales. For a complete list of announcements, visit the Welsh Music Prize website.
