OPEN CALL to attend the HOME workshop about editing, sequencing and binding a collective photobook.
Run by AKINA Factory in collaboration with IC Visual Lab in Bristol, Saturday 10.05.14, within the PBLabs program 2014.
The theme is HOME. Submissions and questions can be sent to akinaworkshop@gmail.com
Deadline 27.04.14

All you need to know about editing, sequencing and binding!

“HOME” (is home though it never be so homely) is a workshop devoted to pleasures and pains of editing and sequencing photographic material and use the result of this creative process to produce a Japanese Stab binding book. Attendees will work in small groups to edit and sequence their book with a hand-on approach. The “pictures pool” to choose from will be the same for everybody: it will be formed by the images the attendees themselves have submitted. Different approaches to editing and sequencing will be investigated: the main player will be the process itself, the same process used for dummy conception and creation.

Every attendee will walk out with a unique copy of the book they have edited, sequenced and bound.
“HOME” is a 1 day workshop run by Akina Factory, organized in collaboration with IC Visual Lab.

Submission criteria to the workshop:

Places are limited to 16 people. A minimum of 11 attendees is necessary to run the workshop. You are asked to submit from 5 to 15 of your BLACK and WHITE photographs or alternatively images you are fully entitled to use. If you are not a photographer but you’d like to attend the workshop, you can send the material you typically work with: screenshots from public domain’s films, collages (within the limits of “fair use”), found photos etc.
Low resolution (72dpi) images along with your application can be sent to: akinaworkshop@gmail.comHigh resolution must be provided if selected. Statements are recommended but not essential. Basics of editing, sequencing and binding are not essential: during the workshop every step of the book-making process will be covered.

The theme is: HOME. Feel free to interpret the word as it pleases you, stretch its boundaries, use it in its widest sense. It’s a point of departure. The other criteria for submitting is simple: bring what you’d like to find.

Applications will end on 27 April 2014. On 28 April we will notify successful applicants. Payment of the attendance fee for successful applicants is due within 1 week. Failure to comply will result in exclusion from the workshop. If you live abroad and you have particular needs to organize your attendance to the workshop, please let us know before the deadline.

Fee: £60 (all the necessary tools and printed material to attend the workshop are included). We’ll keep limited places at concessionary fee prices. Hard period happens: please state in your application if you’re through one of them.

This event is brought to you by Akina Factory and IC Visual Lab Bristol.
