Now the summer is well and truly behind us for another year – the nights are getting darker and the days are getting colder. This can only mean one thing; it is time to put those Hawaiian shirts and board shorts to the back of the wardrobe and replace them with some cosy knitwear, warm jackets and comfy trousers.

But before you hit the shops and spend your hard earned money filling your winter wardrobe, here are a few AW16 trends you need to know about – so you make sure you are filling it with the right items of clothing.

Copper
Copper is going to be the colour over the next couple of seasons – so make sure you bear this in mind when adding everything from trousers and shirts to jackets and jumpers to your wardrobe. Although, other traditional autumnal colours will also remain popular, so think navies, blacks, greys and dark greens too.

Duffle Coats
A very important item of clothing during autumn and winter is the coat because the cold weather will mean much of your outfit is hidden underneath it. While you want it to be warm and cosy, you will also want it to look stylish. The most popular coat this season is the duffle – with camel being the favourite colour, this is the perfect way to start getting that copper into your wardrobe. Take a look at Clues Fashion for some on-trend coats that will look great on you and keep you warm, of course.

Embellished Bombers
Bomber jackets have been back in fashion for some time, however this season they come with added details. These come in velvets, leathers and wools with rich embellishments incorporated into the design – some with intricate hand embroidery and others with interesting badges sewn on.

Shearling
Shearling has been topping many trend lists in recent seasons – so much so that it is now becoming less of a trend and more of a winter essential. It looks great on a range of different coats and keeps you snug at the same time. So make sure you invest in a decent one because it will be a staple piece in your wardrobe for many winters to come.

Neckerchiefs
You need to keep your neck warm from the chilly wind but you can forget about big wooly scarves this winter because neckerchiefs are the way to keep warm this season. To be bang on-trend look for something in a cotton-silk mix, full of pattern and colour.

Funnel Necks
The rollneck has already had a revival, which looks set to continue. However, this season will also see both funnel and lower mock turtlenecks (a rollneck without the roll) on the shelves. Pick either a zip-up or slip-over one and wear it under your duffle coat for extra warmth.

Now you know what to look out for it is time to hit the shops and start filling up your winter wardrobe.
